It's finally here! The release everyone has been anxiously awaiting for some time now.

This is a fairly major update to the code that includes an entirely new BBcode parser, new database backup/restore handling, a fresh new skin, improved timezone handling, tightened permissions security, HttPOnly cookies for IE, and numerous bugfixes.

This also includes one significant XSS vulnerability which was plugged up with regard to forum listings.

This release has been very heavily tested with three release candidates and should be very solid.

For those of you who are using the default skin

Be advised that the upgrade process is set to replace ALL of the existing templates if you are still using the stock skin that ships with QSF. This is named "QSF Comet" and is stored in the "default" directory. If you have not changed either of these and have made customizations to your skin you don't want to lose, you'll need to rename one or both of these values BEFORE you run the upgrade.

Detruire did a fabulous job with his HForum-3 skin and we believe this will go a long way toward bringing QSF into the modern age. The skin is entirely tableless except for the AdminCP permissions screen. So far in using it it's proven to be very bot-friendly so it should help with SEO as well. .........................

Our lives are not without frustration :(

Within hours, the first bug cropped up. Something that should have been working a long time ago. Attached files will not download.

The fix: http://forums.quicksilverforums.com/index.php?a=topic&t=1291
There's a fixed topic.php file attached in the bug thread. .........................

Happens to me too. I believe it happened every time I uploaded a release of my old CMS to SF... Except it usually was noticed a couple of minutes later on.

Even happened on this post  .........................

Oh, no, I mean it was literally broken. As in it was generating a QSF error that I only noticed upon trying to grab a text attachment and got a face full of error HTML instead :P .........................

My CMS bugs were things like the ACP didn't work...
As for that post, looks like BBCode isn't working correctly. .........................

Your post is working fine, it's set to not parse bbcode. .........................

I upgraded my forum from 1.3.1 -> 1.4.0 with the updated topics.php file. It went OK. There was a warning (can't remember what it said) on upgrade. One problem I've found is that signature images don't appear. It shows the image URL enclosed in the IMG tags instead.

Can I still keep my default skin on 1.4.0 from the previous QSF releases? I have extensive modding to the skin on my website (powered by QSF Portal). I don't want to ditch the skin either, it's very fast in execution.

If you back it up your skin (database dump as well as exporting the skin) you should be able to install it after you upgrade, but it will break (pretty sure it will, I've not ported any skins to 1.4.0 yet), might be an idea to rename it. .........................

I just upgraded a site from QSFP 1.3.3 that was using both the default skin and a customized one. The default skin upgraded flawlessly, didn't break. The custom one got the new templates it was missing (2) and nothing else. It did not break. The site worked properly using the custom skin even though it was missing some of the added stuff.

I also upgraded two sites that was using QSF 1.2.1 up to the 1.4.0 code. Also using the default skin plus the IBFBlue skin. The sites did not break. I'm not sure why there's the perception that it will break things to upgrade. You just need to be careful not to obliterate your skin if you haven't renamed it from the default settings. .........................
